Daredevil: Born Again introduces a fresh twist by replacing a beloved character from the initial Marvel series with a new figure who has unexpected ties to Venom. This connection is intriguing, considering that Venom primarily falls under Sony’s umbrella, raking in over $1 billion across his solo trilogy and surpassing all other Marvel films from Sony’s Spider-Man franchise. While Venom’s appearance in Daredevil: Born Again seems unlikely, the show integrates numerous characters connected to Spider-Man lore, including Daredevil and Kingpin, highlighting the intertwined nature of New York’s Marvel heroes.
Serving as a sequel to the Netflix series, Daredevil: Born Again unveils a range of new characters, such as Matt Murdock’s law firm partner, Kirsten McDuffie, and his romantic interest, Heather Glenn. However, this comes at the cost of sidelining well-known figures like Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. Additionally, Wilson Fisk is depicted surrounded by new associates, including James Gandolfini’s Daniel Blake and Arty Froushan’s Buck Cashman. Although Blake has no comic ties, Cashman indeed has a notable counterpart in the comics.
Buck Cashman Is Born Again’s Answer To Kingpin’s Original Right-Hand Man
Buck Cashman Is Seen Carrying Out Fisk’s Dirty Work
In the series, Buck Cashman is depicted as Wilson Fisk’s right-hand man, executing covert tasks for Fisk, who is attempting to maintain an image as the newly elected Mayor of New York. It’s a rarity to see Fisk without a trustworthy aide ready to handle his underhanded dealings. Previously, this position was held by Benjamin Poindexter in season 3 of Daredevil, where their partnership dramatically fell apart. The most notable of Fisk’s aides was James Wesley, who had an essential role in season 1 until he was killed by Karen Page.
The impact of Wesley’s death still lingers into Daredevil season 3, as Karen confesses to Fisk about her involvement in Wesley’s death, prompting Fisk to seek vengeance by ordering Karen’s demise. As Cashman steps in, it’s uncertain whether he can fill the gap left by Wesley, but if Marvel Studios aims for a faithful depiction, Cashman might emerge as a significant force in the underworld.
Who Is Buck Cashman In Marvel Comics
Buck Cashman Is A Superpowered Lackey Of Wilson Fisk
Buck Cashman, known as “Bullet” in Marvel Comics, is a notorious black ops agent. He possesses a range of superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, speed, and resilience. While it’s unclear how he obtained these powers, they enable him to surpass Wilson Fisk in physical prowess. It’s yet to be determined if Arty Froushan’s portrayal will reflect Cashman’s comic-book abilities, especially since he does not share the character’s size and physical traits.
Additionally, Cashman collaborates with one of Fisk’s other significant enforcers, Typhoid Mary, who has previously appeared in the Iron Fist series, though it’s uncertain if she’ll appear in Daredevil: Born Again.
Cashman’s connection to Wilson Fisk is definitely comic-accurate as he begins his career as a covert government operative before being drawn into Fisk’s criminal world, culminating in clashes with Daredevil. Notably, he also collaborates with Typhoid Mary and the specifics of his story become even more fascinating with his connection to the Venom symbiote.
Bullet’s Link To Venom Explained
One Of Venom’s Spawn Bonds With Cashman
After distancing himself from the criminal world, Buck Cashman tries to lead a quiet life with his dog, Mitch, in the woods. However, unbeknownst to him, Mitch becomes the host for Phage, a spawn of the Venom symbiote. This particular symbiote had been involved with the Life Foundation’s Guardian Symbiotes and was left searching for a new host after encountering hardships under Knull’s influence. Later, Carnage recruits Phage, forcing him to violently bond with Cashman instead.
As of now, Phage is not part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
As Phage, Cashman possesses the usual powers associated with symbiotes, such as regeneration and transmutation, but he’s vulnerable to Anti-Venom’s capabilities. His time as a host is short-lived, as Phage abandons him only to bond once more with his dog. Moreover, it seems unlikely that this storyline will be explored in Daredevil: Born Again. However, if Cashman makes it through the series, perhaps we might see this plot unfold in the MCU in the future.
